ABOUT ECHO CHAMBER

Echo Chamber is a performance series that intertwines live music and dance in new
choreographed works. Echo Chamber productions have featured choreography by some of
Canada’s leading dance makers, including Laurence Lemieux, Alysa Pires, William Yong, and
Hanna Kiel. Echo Chamber has appeared at music and dance festivals around Canada and
abroad, including Fall for Dance North, Toronto Summer Music Festival, Ottawa Chamberfest,
and Festival de Febrero in Ajijic, Mexico.

With the support of the Canada Council for the Arts, Echo Chamber toured to Yellowknife,
Edmonton, and Sherwood Park, presenting Portraits of Home, a project that illuminates the
inseparable relationship between music and the land on which it was conceived. Most recently,
Echo Chamber’s production A World Transformed was presented by Mount Allison University
and toured to Nova Scotia for co-productions with Acadia University and the Halifax Central
Library.

About the Artists

Johanna Bergfelt, a native of Sweden, graduated from The Royal Swedish Ballet School in
1989. She has an extensive performance background beginning with Östgötabaletten, where she
worked for six years. Since coming to Canada in 2000, Johanna has worked with numerous
choreographers, and she was a company dancer with Pro Arte Danza and the Toronto Dance
Theatre. Since 2022 she has worked as both a dancer as well as rehearsal director for Citadel +
Compagnie. As a teacher Johanna teaches regularly at In Studio, The Citadel, her own online
classes, The Dance Institute, and company classes at Toronto Dance Theatre.

Zachary Cardwell shares dance with a broad range of dancers of all ages, physical capabilities,
and skill level across North America in large cities and small towns. With vast experience,
Zachary has taught at the University of Toronto, Assemblée Internationale, and currently teaches
at Canada’s National Ballet school. A graduate of Arts Umbrella in Vancouver BC, Zachary has
worked with Canadian companies such as Toronto Dance Theatre, Echo Chamber, and hART
dance. His international presence spans Holland, performing in Nederland Dans Theatre and
Korzo’s Shortcuts XL (Arts Umbrella Senior Dance Company), Piazza performances in Siderno
Italy (hART Dance) and the Northern Lights Festival de Febrero in Mexcio (Echo Chamber).

Pianist Jeanie Chung leads a fulfilling career in both performance and education. With solo
recitals, concerto appearances, and chamber music concerts in five continents, she has
established herself as a versatile and accomplished musician. Jeanie has collaborated with
esteemed artists such as Andrés Diaz, Colin Carr, and Rachel Mercer, among others. Her
extensive training includes studies at the Juilliard School with Boris Lysenko, Leon Fleisher, and
John Perry. A recipient of the Career Development Award from the Women’s Musical Club of
Toronto and grants from the Canada Council for the Arts, Jeanie also serves as faculty at The
Royal Conservatory Glenn Gould School and The Phil and Eli Taylor Performance Academy for
Young Artists.

Tenor Marcel d’Entremont is a former winner of the Wirth Vocal Prize and Grand Award for
overall best performer at the National Music Festival of Canada. Marcel has been a resident artist
at the National Arts Center of Canada’s Young Artist Program, the Art of Song Institute with the
Toronto Summer Music, and was a Yulanda M. Faris Young Artist with the Vancouver Opera. He
has been a soloist in Elijah with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and Toronto Mendelssohn
Choir and Britten’s Serenade for Tenor, Horn, and Strings with the PEI Symphony Orchestra,
and recently toured with Debut Atlantic. Marcel was previously named one of the Top 30 Under
30 classical musicians in Canada by CBC Music.

Dakota Scott-Digout is one of Canada’s most in-demand collaborative pianists. Praised for his
performances of chamber music and art song, he was recently featured in a recital broadcast by
CBC Music alongside tenor Marcel d’Entremont. Dakota currently serves on the artistic teams of
the Toronto Children’s Chorus, Nathaniel Dett Choral, and VOCA Chorus of Toronto. Holding
degrees from Université de Montréal and Mount Allison University, Dakota is currently pursuing
a Doctor of Musical Arts at the University of Toronto, where he won the 2020 Gwendolyn
Koldofsky Prize in Accompanying. Passionate about French vocal repertoire, his research
focuses on early twentieth-century performance practice and Gabriel Fauré’s mélodies.

Juno and Dora award-winning mezzo-soprano Andrea Ludwig showcases remarkable depth and
versatility in her career. Notable roles with the Canadian Opera Company include Nireno in
Handel’s “Julius Caesar,” Flora in “The Turn of the Screw,” and Moira in Paul Ruder’s “The
Handmaid’s Tale.” A sought-after talent in contemporary opera, Andrea has premiered works
such as “Shelter,” “Oksana G,” and “The Overcoat: A Musical Tailoring” with Tapestry Opera.
Her acclaimed portrayal of Nada in Ana Sokolovic’s “Svadba” (The Wedding) has taken her
worldwide, including performances in France, Serbia, and Ireland. Andrea’s notable recordings
including “Responsio” by Peter Anthony Togni and “Thais: Grand Opera in Concert” with the
TSO and TMC conducted by Sir Andrew Davis.

Violinist Aaron Schwebel currently holds the positions of Concertmaster with the National
Ballet of Canada and Associate Concertmaster with the Canadian Opera Company. As a guest
concertmaster, Aaron has performed with the National Arts Centre Orchestra, Les Violons Du
Roy, Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra, and Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony. An active chamber
music performer, Aaron is a member of the LARK ensemble and Rosebud String Quartet. Aaron
also directs Echo Chamber, a project that intertwines chamber music and contemporary dance,
which has performed throughout Canada and abroad. Aaron has taught classes at the University
of Toronto, Glenn Gould School Taylor Academy, Mount Allison University, and is currently on
faculty at the National Youth Orchestra of Canada and the Toronto Summer Music Festival.
