Stephanie Unverricht began bassoon studies with Peter Gravlin in Saskatoon, then went on to earn a Bachelor of Music at the University of Ottawa and a Master of Music at the New England Conservatory (NEC) studying with Christopher Millard and Richard Svoboda. While in Boston at NEC, Stephanie performed with MetroWest Opera, the Mercury Orchestra and the Glens Falls Symphony, NY. She has also performed in a number of Canadian ensembles, including the Ottawa Chamber Orchestra and the symphony orchestras of Regina, Red Deer and Winnipeg. In 2011, she returned home to join the Saskatoon Symphony and Chamber Players (www.saskatoonsymphony.org) as Principal Bassoon. Since joining the SSO she has performed as soloist and designed engaging school shows that are performed by the SSO Chamber Players for elementary-aged students throughout the province. Stephanie has been a featured performer and member of local festivals and chamber groups including Prairie Virtuosi, Ritornello Festival, Saskatoon Opera, and her trio “Chicks with Sticks”. Not confined to the classical genre, she is also a multi-instrumentalist with the alternative orchestral folk band, Minor Matter (www.minormatter.ca), who have released two recordings including an EP in 2013 and a self-titled full length album in 2016. Stephanie is a teacher and co-director for Sistema Saskatoon (www.sistemasaskatoon.ca), a program that focuses on the ideal that every child should have the opportunity to enrich their lives through music and teamwork. She maintains a private studio in Saskatoon and Humboldt area, is a coach for the woodwind section of the Saskatoon Youth Orchestra (www.syo.ca), and codirector and arranger for Squawk!, Saskatoon’s finest double reed ensemble.
