Ryan Davis

Hailed as a “lovely violist” (The WholeNote, 2014), Ryan Davis is swiftly emerging as a sought-after artist in orchestral, chamber music and solo performances. Born in Canberra, Australia, but raised in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, Mr. Davis is currently based in Los Angeles, California. He had a solo concerto debut with Prairie Virtuosi in January 2016, and was recently chosen as the principal violist of the Lucerne Festival Academy Orchestra for their 2017 summer festival in Switzerland. Mr. Davis has performed as the principal violist of the Colburn Orchestra under celebrated conductors Thierry Fischer, Courtney Lewis, and Matthias Pintscher, and has concertized with the Colburn Chamber Music Society on multiple occasions. Mr. Davis has been fortunate to collaborate in chamber music performances with many world-renowned musicians, including Martin Beaver, Jonathan Crow, Steven Dann, Roberto Diaz, Matt Haimovitz, Joel Link, Ryan Meehan, Anthony Marwood, Johannes Moser, Jeff Myers, Eric Nowlin, Wolfgang Redik, Lara St. John, and Axel Strauss. He has performed in master classes and at summer academies for violists Atar Arad, Roberto Diaz, James Dunham, Eric Nowlin, Jean Sulem, Mate Szucs, Antoine Tamestit, and Roger Tapping. Festivals include the Banff Center for the Arts, Orford Arts Center, McGill International String Quartet Academy, Ritornello Chamber Music Festival, and the Toronto Summer Music Festival. Mr. Davis is an innovative performer under the moniker Little King, fusing elements of classical, folk, and hip-hop music with a sampler machine and loop pedal. He has worked closely with Street Symphony, an organization that engages with the communities of Skid Row in downtown Los Angeles, performing for the homeless and incarcerated in various capacities. Ryan began viola studies with James Legge, and in 2014 completed a Bachelor of Music degree at McGill University, graduating with “Outstanding Achievement in Viola” as a scholarship student of Andre Roy. He then completed a Master of Music degree in 2016 at the Yale School of Music as a student of Ettore Causa. Ryan is currently an Artist Diploma candidate at the Colburn Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of Paul Coletti.
