Formed in 1977, Mistral 5 are the Principal woodwind players of Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra and the resident ensemble for the SSO’s chamber music series Music for a Sunday afternoon. The group serves the province through concert touring, educational programming, and outreach. Their performances outside the symphonic concert hall include elder care homes, places of worship, places of commerce, and at festivals. In addition, the quintet performs 30 educational programs a year in elementary schools across the province of Saskatchewan.
Mistral 5 is dedicated to the performance of new music and the support of Saskatchewan composers. They have commissioned numerous works and performed countless premiers of new music.
